HIRSCHMANN RS40-0009CCCCEDBPHH06.0.01 Industrial Switch
HIRSCHMANN RS40-0009CCCCEDBPHH06.0.01 Industrial Switch
The Hirschmann RS40-0009CCCCEDBPHH06.0.01 is an all-Gigabit, fully managed Layer 2 Industrial Ethernet switch designed for high-performance automation backbones. Unlike typical hybrid switches, the RS40 series features full Gigabit capabilities across all ports, ensuring massive bandwidth and minimal latency for high-speed data transmission, industrial imaging, and intensive motion control.
Equipped with 9 Gigabit ports (comprising 4 combo ports and 5 SFP slots), this switch runs on Hirschmann’s proven Classic Software (version 06.0.01) to provide robust security, deterministic redundancy, and advanced network diagnostic management.
Unique Product Description & Hardware Profile
The RS40-0009CCCCEDBPHH06.0.01 is a highly specialized, hardened network hub. It stands out due to its unique high-density SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) slot layout:
Pure Gigabit Performance: Operating at 10/100/1000 Mbit/s, it eliminates data bottlenecks at critical PLC aggregation points.
Flexible Fiber Infrastructure: Features 5 dedicated SFP slots alongside 4 Gigabit Combo Ports (which allow a choice between a 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ45 copper connection or a 1000BASE-FX SFP fiber slot). This enables up to 9 active fiber-optic connections in a compact DIN rail footprint.
Resilient Fanless Design: The anodized aluminum housing operates as an integrated heat sink, offering reliable thermal management without failure-prone mechanical fans.
Product Advantages & Features
Sub-Millisecond Redundancy: Implements HIPER-Ring and MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol), maintaining uninterrupted communication with recovery times of less than 20 ms in loops consisting of up to 50 switches.
Enhanced Network Security: Integrated access security layers including MAC-based port security, IEEE 802.1X network access control, IP/MAC-specific Access Control Lists (ACLs), and secure configuration via HTTPS and SSH.
Time Synchronization Accuracy: Supports IEEE 1588v2 PTP (Precision Time Protocol), ensuring sub-microsecond synchronization for time-sensitive motion control and distributed sensor applications.
Redundant Power Paths: Dual power terminal inputs operate with a wide 9.6 to 60 VDC (or 18 to 30 VAC) tolerance, protecting operations against localized power source failures.

Application Cases
1. Smart Grid & Power Substation Automation
In electrical substations, the RS40 handles heavy telemetry traffic and synchronization tasks. With its IEEE 1588v2 timing capabilities and high-density fiber ports, it links central protection relays to remote terminal units (RTUs) across electromagnetically noisy switchyards.
2. High-Definition Traffic & CCTV Surveillance Systems
Urban traffic control and railway systems utilize the RS40 to backhaul multiple high-bandwidth IP security cameras. Its gigabit optical fiber links transmit video data back to regional control rooms without signal degradation or electromagnetic interference over several kilometers.
3. Automotive Assembly Lines
Automotive production loops demand high data rates and fast network recovery times for robot coordination. The RS40’s HIPER-Ring redundancy ensures that even if a communication cable is physically severed, data reroutes in less than 20 milliseconds, keeping assembly lines running.
Other Models in the Same Series
The Hirschmann RS40 and RS30/20 platform configurations scale based on port speed and density requirements:
RS40-0009CCCCSDAE: The standard temperature, non-hardened variation of the RS40.
RS40-0009CCCCEDBPHH… (This Model): Configured with extended climate tolerances, advanced approvals, and customized classic firmware profiles.
RS30-0802O6O6…: A hybrid switch featuring 8 Fast Ethernet copper ports and 2 Gigabit SFP ports (useful when only uplink paths require Gigabit bandwidth).
RS20 Series: All-Fast Ethernet managed switches (10/100 Mbit/s) designed for simple localized machinery cells where Gigabit speeds are not required.
Installation & Maintenance
1.Mount on standard 35mm Rail:Secure DIN placement。
Tilt the unit slightly upward, hook the upper latch onto the standard 35 mm DIN rail, and push down firmly on the bottom front face of the switch. Ensure the lower spring slide clicks shut, locking the device in place.
2.Ground the Metal Enclosure:Static shield。
Connect a heavy-gauge copper earthing conductor (minimum 14 AWG) to the grounding screw terminal located on the bottom-front edge of the switch. Run the other end directly to the cabinet’s main grounding bus.
3.Wire Terminal block & Power Up:Redundant 9.6-60 VDC。
Strip power leads and secure them into the removable terminal plug (P1 and P2 terminals). Plug the block into the top terminal port. Confirm the front-facing LED power lights turn green.
4.Insert SFPs and Connect Optical Fiber:Install optical SFP modules。
Slide your SFP transceivers into the SFP slots until they click into place. Remove dust covers and connect the duplex LC or SC optical fiber patch cords, observing correct transmit (TX) and receive (RX) orientation.
