Hirschmann RS20-1600T1T1SDAUHC Management-type Ethernet Switch
The Hirschmann RS20-1600T1T1SDAUHC is a highly reliable, heavy-duty industrial managed Ethernet switch designed for DIN-rail installations.
Operating within the OpenRail family, this 16-port Fast Ethernet switch offers comprehensive Layer 2 management capability, advanced diagnostic tools, and physical environmental hardening.
Equipped with conformal coating (indicated by “HC”) and global hazardous location certifications (indicated by “U”), this device is built for continuous operation in highly demanding settings like chemical plants, offshore oil rigs, and heavy manufacturing floors.
Technical Table
Below is the detailed technical specification profile decoded from the RS20-1600T1T1SDAUHC model number structure:
| Indicator LED | State | Diagnosis & Troubleshooting |
| P1 or P2 | Off | Power input 1 or 2 is dead. Verify power cables, terminal connections, and supply fuses. |
| FAULT (Red) | Solid On | An active alarm is present. This could be due to a lost power supply feed, a broken port link, or an internal hardware failure. Access the web GUI to check the system event log. |
| RM (Ring Manager) | Flashing Green | The switch is acting as the Ring Manager, and the MRP loop is physically closed and functioning correctly. |
| Port LED | Off with cable plugged in | No physical link detected. Replace the Ethernet patch cable, test the remote end device, or verify the maximum cable length ($100\text{ m}$) has not been exceeded. |
Environmental Tolerance Conditions
This unit is designed to survive where enterprise-grade switches fail:
Operating Temperature: $0\text{ °C}$ to $+60\text{ °C}$ ($32\text{ °F}$ to $140\text{ °F}$) with convection cooling (no moving parts/fans).
Operating Humidity: $10\%$ to $95\%$ non-condensing (additionally protected by the chemical conformal coating).
Vibration Resistance: Certified under IEC 60068-2-6 ($2\text{ to } 9\text{ Hz}$ at $3\text{ mm}$ amplitude; $9\text{ to } 150\text{ Hz}$ at $1\text{ g}$).
Mechanical Shock: Certified under IEC 60068-2-27 ($15\text{ g}$ over a duration of $11\text{ ms}$).
EMC Interference Resistance: High immunity to industrial electromagnetic surges and electrostatic discharge (EN 61000-4 series and IEEE 1613).
Operating Instructions
Mounting & Powering
1.Mount to the 35mm DIN-Rail:Snap onto rail。
Hook the upper latch of the switch housing onto the DIN-rail and press the bottom of the device inward until the bottom locking slider snaps firmly in place.
2.Connect Functional Ground:Grounding connection。
Run a heavy-gauge protective ground wire (minimum 14 AWG) from the front panel ground screw to your cabinet’s primary ground busbar.
3.Wire Terminal Block Power:Redundant wiring。
Connect your dual independent DC power lines ($24\text{ V}$ nominal recommended) to $L1(+)/N(-)$ and $L2(+)/N(-)$ on the 5-pin screw-type terminal block.
4.Plug in RJ45 Ethernet Cabling:Data connections。
Insert standard CAT5e/CAT6 twisted-pair patch cables into the RJ45 copper ports. The auto-negotiation and auto-crossing features will self-adjust the polarity.

Configuration Access
Assign IP: Run the free Hirschmann HiDiscovery software on a connected laptop to locate the switch on the network via its MAC address and assign a valid static IP.
Access GUI: Open a web browser, enter https://, and log in.
Password Update: You must change the default password printed on the side label of the switch immediately during the first login sequence to secure the device.
Fault Diagnosis
If the system experiences disruptions, check the local status indicators on the front panel:
Related Models of the Same Series
The Hirschmann RS20 series is modular, allowing users to select different port quantities, fiber uplinks, and chemical coatings:
RS20-1600T1T1SDAEHC: Same 16-port copper configuration, but with standard industrial approvals (omits the “U” hazardous location classification).
RS20-2400S4S4SDAEHC: A larger 24-port switch featuring 2 single-mode fiber ST ports for long-distance connectivity.
RS20-0800M2M2SDAU: A compact 8-port switch featuring 2 multi-mode fiber SC ports with hazardous location approvals.
Storage Conditions
To protect the switchgear components during long-term warehouse storage, adhere to the following conditions:
Temperature Range: $-40\text{ °C}$ to $+85\text{ °C}$ ($-40\text{ °F}$ to $+185\text{ °F}$).
Humidity Limits: $10\%$ to $95\%$ non-condensing relative humidity.
Packaging: Store the switch inside its original ESD-shielded packaging to prevent electrostatic discharge damage and keep moisture or airborne contaminants away from the terminal contacts.
