HIRSCHMANN MACH4002-48+4G-L3E Industrial Backbone Switch
HIRSCHMANN MACH4002-48+4G-L3E Industrial Backbone Switch
The Hirschmann MACH4002-48+4G-L3E (Order No. 943911-301) is a high-density, modular Layer 3 industrial backbone routing switch. Designed for the central control rooms of massive production systems and critical utility networks, this 19-inch rack-mount chassis acts as a high-throughput data highway, managing complex routing across multiple network segments.
Equipped with Layer 3 Enhanced (L3E) software functionality, this switch supports high-performance dynamic IP routing (including OSPF and RIP), advanced security structures, and sub-millisecond redundancy mechanisms to prevent communication blackouts across massive networks.

Product Advantages and Features
Sub-Millisecond Ring Redundancy: Supports Hirschmann’s proprietary HIPER-Ring and standard MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol), maintaining packet flow by recovering physical link breaks in less than 20 milliseconds.
Hot-Swappable Media Modules: Modules can be inserted or extracted while the switch is powered up and active, preventing costly unscheduled downtime during maintenance or expansion.
Carrier-Grade Layer 3 Routing: Seamlessly bridges independent IP subnets and manages VLAN routing locally at wirespeed, preventing latency spikes from hitting the plant floor.
Designed for Critical Infrastructures: Built to endure heavy industrial environments. Complies with the IEC 61850-3 and IEEE 1613 standards for power substations, featuring high electromagnetic noise immunity and fanless cooling designs for select modules.
Application Cases
1. Power Substation Automation
Deployed in electrical substations to route time-critical GOOSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Events) and Sampled Values data packets between protection relays and the central SCADA system. Its IEC 61850 compliance and VRRP routing guarantee absolute continuity.
2. Urban Rail Transit and Signaling Systems
Installed as the central communications aggregator inside subway passenger terminals. It reliably links station-level CCTV feeds, passenger display boards, and security subnets back to the main control center.
3. Smart Factory Core Distribution
Acts as the central network hub in large-scale manufacturing facilities, routing high-density operational data from shop-floor switches (such as the RS20 and RS30 series) up to enterprise-level MES and ERP databases.

Installation and Maintenance
1.Mount the Switch Chassis:19-inch Rack Cabinet。
Slide the 2U MACH4002 chassis into your standard 19-inch equipment rack. Secure the chassis to the rack rails using four standard M6 mounting screws. Ensure there is free airflow through the ventilation holes.
2.Establish System Grounding:Safety and Shielding。
Connect an 8 AWG ground wire from the chassis ground stud located on the rear panel of the unit directly to the main rack ground terminal.
3.Install Power Supply Modules:M4-POWER Series。
Slide the hot-swappable power supply units (AC or DC) into the designated rear power bays. Tighten the retaining screws and plug in the power cords. If using dual power, feed them from independent source circuits.
4.Insert Media Modules and SFP Transceivers:Hot-Swappable Ports。
Insert your M4-FAST (Fast Ethernet) modules into the front slots and push until they seat firmly. Screw them in. Insert SFP transceiver modules into the designated active combo ports as required.
