Product Features & Core Advantages
Mixed-Port Versatility: Offers 8 standard RJ45 copper ports to wire local devices (PLCs, HMIs, drives) combined with flexible Gigabit SFP ports for high-bandwidth backbone connections over fiber.
Rapid Ring Redundancy: Integrates MRP (Media Redundancy Protocol) and HIPER-Ring topologies, ensuring that if a fiber link is severed, traffic is rerouted in less than 80ms to keep production online.
Enhanced Network Security: Supports advanced security layers including MAC-based port security, IEEE 802.1X network access control, HTTPS web GUI access, and SSH v2 console security.
Command Line & Web Management: Configurable via an intuitive, web-based interface (GUI), command-line interface (CLI) over V.24 serial console, or SNMP management software like Hirschmann Industrial HiVision.
Fail-Safe Reliability: Features dual, redundant DC power inputs and an on-board signal relay to instantly alert monitoring systems of a local power drop or link loss.
Model Classification (RS Series)
The Hirschmann RS-family comprises several distinct physical and speed profiles to match different field requirements:
RS20 (Fast Ethernet): All-Fast Ethernet ($10/100\text{ Mbps}$) copper and fiber ports, designed for basic field-level machine-to-machine communications.
RS30 (Gigabit Uplink): Features Fast Ethernet downlink ports paired with up to two dedicated Gigabit uplink ports for aggregating data.
RS40 (Full Gigabit Backbone): Engineered to act as a high-bandwidth field-level switch, featuring multiple Gigabit SFP slots alongside copper ports to handle high-definition surveillance, safety, or massive SCADA data.
Environmental Tolerance Conditions
Built to handle tough industrial conditions inside control cabinets:
Operating Temperature: $0\text{ °C}$ to $+60\text{ °C}$ (standard range).
Storage Temperature: $-40\text{ °C}$ to $+70\text{ °C}$.
Relative Humidity: $10\%$ to $95\%$ non-condensing.
Shock & Vibration: Certified under IEC 60068-2-6 (vibration) and IEC 60068-2-27 (shock) standards.
Electromagnetic Immunity: High-grade industrial EMC compliance (EN 61000-4 series) to prevent interference from adjacent high-voltage machinery and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
Installation Method
1.Mount onto the DIN-Rail:Standard 35mm rail。
Position the top groove of the switch’s rear mounting clip onto the 35mm DIN-rail. Press the bottom of the switch firmly toward the rail until the spring-loaded lock clicks securely into place.
2.Connect Functional Earth Ground:Chassis ground。
Connect a heavy-gauge copper grounding wire from the ground screw located on the bottom-front of the switch directly to the cabinet’s central grounding bar.
3.Insert SFP Fiber Modules:SFP transceivers。
Insert compatible SFP fiber transceivers into the “C” designated SFP slots. Connect the LC fiber optic patch cables once the transceivers are securely latched in place.
4.Wire the Terminal Block Power:Redundant 24V DC。
Connect your dual independent DC power sources to the removable 5-pin terminal block (P1 and P2). Insert the terminal block into the mating receptacle on top of the switch.
Operating Instructions
Initial Network Setup
Discovering the Switch: By default, the switch relies on DHCP. If your network does not have a DHCP server, run the free Hirschmann HiDiscovery utility on a connected PC. The software will locate the switch’s MAC address across the network and allow you to assign a temporary static IP.
Accessing Management: Open a web browser and enter the newly assigned IP address using HTTPS.
Login Credentials: Log in using the default credentials located on the device’s physical rating plate. Upon your first login, the system will prompt you to change these default credentials to a secure password.
Front Panel Diagnostic Reference
P1 / P2 LEDs (Green): On when the respective power supply feed is active and within acceptable voltage tolerances.
FAULT LED (Red): Lights up if a monitored port drops link, if a power input fails, or if an internal system self-test fails.
RM LED (Green): Indicates that the switch is currently configured as the active Ring Manager for network redundancy.
Link/Data LEDs (Green/Yellow): Individual port indicators flash to represent active RX/TX data traffic on copper or fiber links.
