HIRSCHMANN RS20-1600T1T1SDAEHC09.0.04 Industrial Switch

The Hirschmann RS20-1600T1T1SDAEHC09.0.04 (Order No. 943434023) is a high-density, fully managed Layer 2 Industrial Fast Ethernet switch. Part of the highly adaptable OpenRail family, this switch features an all-copper configuration of 16 RJ45 ports, making it an ideal choice for localized control cabinet distribution, manufacturing assembly lines, and high-density terminal setups.

By executing on Hirschmann’s legacy Classic Software (Layer 2 Enhanced – L2E) version 09.0.04. this switch guarantees robust security, highly structured traffic management (such as VLANs and QoS), and rapid, sub-millisecond redundancy schemes required for mission-critical industrial networks.

Operating Instructions & Initial Commissioning

1. Assigning an IP Address

Because this is a managed Layer 2 device, you must configure its IP parameters to access the internal management portal:

Use a serial console cable (RJ11 to DB9/USB) to connect your PC to the V.24 port, or run the Hirschmann HiDiscovery utility on a local Ethernet segment.

Let the utility scan the network, locate the switch via its hardware MAC address, and assign your required IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway.

Open your browser and navigate via HTTPS to the newly configured IP address. Log in using the default credentials and immediately set a secure administrator password.

2. Physical Switch Configuration

Mounting: Snaps directly onto standard 35 mm DIN rails (IEC/EN 60715). Always mount vertically inside an enclosure with at least 10 cm of clearance above and below to assist natural convective heat dissipation.

Grounding: Connect the grounding screw located at the bottom-left of the faceplate to your cabinet’s common ground bar before turning on the power.

Dual Power Input: Power inputs P1 and P2 can be powered by separate power supplies. If one supply fails, the switch continues working seamlessly via the secondary input.

Fault Diagnosis

Diagnostic routines are carried out via the physical LED matrix, the hardware signaling contact, or remote SNMP traps.

LED Status Indicators

Power LEDs (P1 & P2): Steady green confirms the respective power supply line is active and delivering $>9.6\text{ VDC}$.

Fault LED (F):

Off: System is performing normally.

Red / Solid: Indicates a registered alarm (e.g., loss of power redundancy, a monitored copper link failure, or internal hardware error).

Standby / RM LED: Identifies the redundancy state. Green indicates the switch is acting as the Ring Manager (RM) for a redundant loop (e.g., HIPER-Ring).

Port LEDs (1 to 16):

Green / Solid: Valid hardware link detected.

Green / Flashing: Active packet transmission.

Yellow: 100 Mbit/s speed selected.

Off: No physical link detected.

Hardware Alarm Contact

The integrated 6-pin terminal block features a dry fault-monitoring relay. Under normal, non-fault operating conditions, the relay contact remains closed.

If a power input falls below the threshold, a monitored port link goes down, or the switch loses power entirely, the circuit breaks open, triggering an immediate alarm in connected PLCs.

Related Models of the Same Series

The OpenRail RS20 platform is highly modular, featuring variations in port density and transceiver types:

RS20-0800T1T1…: 8-port all-copper managed switch (ideal for smaller sub-panels).

RS20-1600M2M2…: 16-port hybrid switch featuring 14 RJ45 copper ports and 2 Multi-Mode SC fiber-optic ports.

RS20-1600S2S2…: 16-port hybrid switch equipped with 14 RJ45 ports and 2 Single-Mode SC fiber ports for long-distance trunk lines.

RS30-1602…: 16-port Fast Ethernet switch with 2 additional Gigabit Ethernet combo ports for high-bandwidth core uplinks.

Storage Conditions

To protect the internal components and copper RJ45 pins from oxidation and degradation over extended periods:

Storage Temperature: Keep within $-40^{\circ}\text{C}$ to $+70^{\circ}\text{C}$.

Humidity Levels: Under 95%, strictly non-condensing.

Environment: Store inside a clean, dust-free, and ESD-protected area, preferably within the original protective packaging. Ensure no corrosive fumes or liquids are present in the storage area.
