Samsung SMTB-RTD RTD/TC Terminal Board

Samsung SMTB-RTD RTD/TC Terminal Board is a specialized temperature-measurement interface module engineered for industrial process monitoring and thermal control systems. It acts as an intermediary signal-conditioning terminal between field temperature sensors (Resistance Temperature Detectors and Thermocouples) and central PLC/DCS controllers, ensuring linear, low-noise signal conversion and isolation in high-temperature industrial environments.

Core Advantages & Product Features

Dual Sensor Compatibility: Supports both RTD resistance inputs and Thermocouple millivolt signals on one hardware platform.

On-Board Cold Junction Compensation (CJC): High-precision internal temperature reference compensates for ambient terminal variation during Thermocouple operations.

3-Wire & 4-Wire Lead Resistance Cancellation: Automatically compensates for sensor wire resistance to maintain measurement accuracy over long field cable runs.

High Noise Rejection: Custom filtering circuitry eliminates 50Hz/60Hz grid hum and high-frequency interference generated by nearby VFDs and industrial heaters.

Sensor Break & Burnout Detection: Triggers safety logic flags automatically if a sensor lead ruptures or disconnects.

Model Classification

SMTB-RTD: Dedicated Temperature Sensor Interface (RTD & Thermocouple inputs).

SMTB-AI: Standard Analog Input Terminal Board (4–20 mA / 0–10 V DC signals).

SMTB-AO: Standard Analog Output Terminal Board (Proportional control outputs).

SMTB-DI / DO: Discrete Digital Input and Output Interface Boards.

Environmental Tolerance Conditions

Operating Temperature: -10°C to +60°C (14°F to 140°F)

Storage Temperature: -25°C to +70°C (-13°F to 158°F)

Relative Humidity: 5% to 95% RH (Non-condensing)

Vibration Resistance: Conforms to IEC 60068-2-6 (10–57 Hz @ 0.075 mm, 57–150 Hz @ 1 g)

Enclosure Protection: IP20 rating (Intended for mounting inside IP54 control enclosures)

Installation Method

Mounting: Snap the bottom latch of the SMTB-RTD onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail (EN 50022) inside an industrial control panel.

Sensor Wiring:

For 3-wire RTDs: Connect sensor wires to terminals A, B, and b as marked on the wiring schematic.

For Thermocouples: Ensure correct polarity (+ red / – blue or standard color codes) using dedicated thermocouple extension wire.

Shield Connection: Terminate overall cable shielding at the terminal board ground point (FG) only; keep the sensor end ungrounded to prevent ground loops.

Torque Specification: Tighten terminal screws to 0.4–0.5 Nm.

Operating Instructions

DIP Switch / Software Setup: Set the hardware jumper or PLC channel configuration to select between RTD types (Pt100 vs. Pt1000) or TC thermocouple types before powering on.

Cold Junction Equilibrium: Allow the panel to reach thermal stability (approx. 15–20 minutes after powering up) to ensure CJC accuracy for thermocouple channels.

Calibration Verification: Verify temperature readings annually using a calibrated decade box (for RTD) or thermocouple calibrator.
