Operating Instructions

Pre-Installation Checklist:

Ensure the industrial chassis and backplane are completely powered off and disconnected from mains supply.

Ground yourself using an anti-static wrist strap before handling the CPU board.

Processor & Memory Installation:

Install the Socket 478 processor and ensure proper thermal compound application before latching the CPU cooler.

Insert compatible DDR DIMM modules securely into the slots until side retention clips lock in place.

Card Slot Insertion:

Align the NuPRO-840 card edge with the target slot on the PICMG 1.0 passive backplane.

Firmly push down evenly on both ends of the board until the gold fingers are fully seated in the slot connectors.

Secure the retaining bracket with the top chassis mounting screw.

Cable & Interface Hookup:

Connect IDE storage drives, system front-panel pin headers (Power SW, Reset, HDD LED), and peripheral cables (VGA, USB, LAN, COM).

Power-On & BIOS Setup:

Supply power to the system, enter BIOS setup by pressing DEL during boot, set correct boot order, and configure IDE/SATA settings.

Fault Diagnosis & Troubleshooting

Symptom / Fault Possible Cause Troubleshooting Steps
No Power / No LED Loose backplane connection or power failure Check backplane power cables (+5V, +12V, +3.3V) and verify card seating in PICMG slot.
No Display Output RAM improperly seated or incorrect BIOS settings Re-seat DDR DIMM modules; clear CMOS jumper (JP1) and retry with standard VGA display.
System Beeps / Continuous Alarm Memory error or CPU overheating Verify CPU fan connector, clean heatsink thermal grease, and test with known-good DDR memory.
Boot Drive Not Found Faulty IDE ribbon cable or wrong BIOS drive order Inspect 40-pin IDE cabling, ensure master/slave pin configuration on drive, and reconfigure BIOS.
Ethernet Disconnections Driver incompatibility or duplex mismatch Update network adapter drivers in OS and check link LED status on the rear RJ-45 jack.
