1. Unique Product Description
The MSM20-M2M2M2M2SY9HH9E99.9 provides hot-swappable fiber connectivity to modular PowerMICE backplanes. Engineered by Belden / Hirschmann, this media module expands industrial networks into noise-heavy, long-distance environments.
Type Designation: MSM20-4FX
Port Configuration: 4 Ports × 100BASE-FX Multimode SC connectors
Optical Reach: Up to 5.000 m on 50/125 µm MM fiber (8 dB link budget at 1300 nm) or 4.000 m on 62.5/125 µm MM fiber (11 dB link budget).
Power Supply: Powered internally via the PowerMICE switch backplane (5W power consumption).
Enclosure Rating: IP20 compact aluminum housing (38 mm × 133 mm × 118 mm; 249 g).
2. Product Advantages and Features
Hot-Swappable Modular Design: Modules can be added, replaced, or upgraded without powering down the host PowerMICE base unit.
High EMI Immunity: Multimode fiber links eliminate electrical noise issues, ground loops, and lightning surges common near high-voltage gear.
Flexible Topology Support: Configurable in Ring, Line, or Star network topologies when combined with PowerMICE management functions.
Industrial-Grade Construction: Meets IEC 60068-2-6 vibration and IEC 60068-2-27 shock standards (15 g, 11 ms).
Diagnostic LEDs: Dedicated status indicators on the front plate show Power, Mode, and Link/Data activity per port for fast troubleshooting.
3. Application Cases
Power Utilities & Substations: Interconnecting remote IEDs (Intelligent Electronic Devices) across sub-stations where strong magnetic fields and ground potential shifts corrupt copper lines.
Transportation Systems: Deployable along railway tracks, roadside cabinets, and traffic monitoring networks under NEMA TS2 compliance.
Factory Automation & Process Control: Connects distant field hubs and distributed PLC cabinets across large manufacturing floors.
Oil & Gas / Hazardous Zones: Long-haul fiber optic backbones connecting offshore platforms or remote pumping stations.

5. Installation and Maintenance
Installation
Module Placement: Slide the MSM20 module smoothly into an empty slot on the PowerMICE (MSP) switch unit until it seats firmly into the backplane.
Fasten Retaining Screws: Secure top and bottom thumbscrews to ensure continuous ground grounding and mechanical stability against vibration.
Fiber Connection: Insert SC multimode fiber patch cables into Port 1–4 connectors until they click into position. Verify optical TX/RX alignment.
Maintenance
Optical Cleaning: Always use alcohol-free fiber cleaning tools on the SC fiber ends before insertion to prevent dust contamination on optical transceivers.
LED Monitoring: Check front-panel Link/Data LEDs:
Solid Green: Link established.
Flashing Green: Port actively transferring data.
Off: No link detected (inspect cable or partner device).
