HIRSCHMANN MM20-M2M2T1T1SAHH Media Module

The HIRSCHMANN MM20-M2M2T1T1SAHH is a dual-media, 4-port Fast Ethernet expansion module designed for Hirschmann’s MICE (Modular Industrial Communication Equipment) series switches, specifically the MS20 and MS30 modular base units.

Featuring an even 50/50 split of 2 optical multimode fiber ports and 2 copper RJ45 ports, this media module offers a balanced hybrid configuration for industrial control panels requiring both field device aggregation and redundant fiber uplink rings.

Product Introduction / Overview

The MM20-M2M2T1T1SAHH plugs directly into the backplane slots of MS20 or MS30 modular switches. Its 2-fiber / 2-copper port architecture makes it an ideal fit for ring topologies (such as Hirschmann’s HIPER-Ring or MRP), where the two optical SC ports form the dual redundant ring uplink, while the two RJ45 ports connect local controllers, drives, or HMIs.

Product Features / Core Advantages

Ideal Ring Topology Module: Dual optical ports enable easy integration into fault-tolerant ring networks (MRP / HIPER-Ring) for zero-packet-loss redundant backbones.

Balanced Hybrid Density: Eliminates the need to buy separate fiber-only and copper-only cards when both connectivity types are needed in a single switch node.

Noise Isolation: Fiber ports provide total electrical isolation against ground loops and high electromagnetic interference (EMI).

Hot-Swappable Backplane Architecture: Can be inserted or replaced in live MS20/MS30 base units without bringing down network traffic on adjacent modules.

Model Classification

The Hirschmann MICE MM20 system allows custom port selection across different optical connector types and environmental tiers:

Model Port Configuration Environmental / Approval Tier
MM20-M2M2T1T1SAHH 2 x Multimode SC Fiber + 2 x RJ45 Standard Temp ($0^\circ\text{C}$ to $+60^\circ\text{C}$) + Standard Approvals

Environmental Tolerance Conditions

Operating Temperature: $0^\circ\text{C}$ to $+60^\circ\text{C}$ ($32^\circ\text{F}$ to $140^\circ\text{F}$)

Storage / Transport Temperature: $-40^\circ\text{C}$ to $+85^\circ\text{C}$ ($-40^\circ\text{F}$ to $185^\circ\text{F}$)

Relative Humidity: 10% to 95% (non-condensing)

Standards Compliance: cUL508. cUL1604. CE, FCC Part 15 Class A

Installation Method

ESD Safety Prep: Wear an antistatic wrist strap before handling the electronics.

Chassis Alignment: Locate an open media slot on the target MS20 or MS30 basic switch. Align the side guides of the MM20 module with the guide rails in the chassis slot.

Insertion: Slide the module firmly until the rear connector seats into the switch backplane.

Mechanical Fastening: Tighten the captive thumb screws on the top and bottom of the module faceplate to establish proper grounding and shock stability.

Cabling Connection:

Plug standard Cat5e/6 Ethernet cables into the RJ45 copper ports.

Remove protective rubber dust caps from the SC ports and plug in multimode SC fiber cables, ensuring Tx on one end connects to Rx on the remote node.

Operating Instructions

LED Status Verification: Upon power-up, observe the front-panel LEDs. A solid green LED indicates an active physical link, while flashing green/amber indicates active data transfer.

Fiber Dust Care: Always keep protective caps installed on any unused SC fiber ports to prevent dust from fouling the internal optical lenses.

Hot-Swapping Routine: To replace a running module, disconnect all fiber and copper cables, loosen the top and bottom screws, and pull the module straight out from the chassis.
