HIRSCHMANN MM20-Z6Z6T1T1SAHH hot-swappable hybrid Fast Ethernet Media Module

HIRSCHMANN MM20-Z6Z6T1T1SAHH (order designation: MM20-Z6Z6T1T1SAHH…) is a hot-swappable hybrid Fast Ethernet Media Module designed for Hirschmann’s modular MICE (Modular Industrial Communication Equipment) Switch family (MS20 and MS30 series).

By pairing 2 Fast Ethernet SFP slots with 2 RJ45 copper ports, this versatile module offers the ultimate middle ground—allowing network engineers to deploy custom optical transceivers (single-mode, multi-mode, or long-haul) alongside standard copper field drops in a single slot.

Unique Product Description

Hirschmann MM20-Z6Z6T1T1SAHH is a hybrid 4-port Fast Ethernet media module integrating 2 x SFP optical slots and 2 x RJ45 copper ports for MS20/30 modular switch backplanes. Engineered for standard industrial temperatures (0∘C to +60∘C), it bridges customizable fiber uplinks (via M-Fast-SFP transceivers) with direct local equipment copper drops—all within a single hot-swappable module without interrupting live network operations.

Product Advantages and Features

Flexible SFP + Copper Combination: Features 2 x Fast Ethernet SFP slots and 2 x 10/100Base-TX RJ45 copper ports, offering maximum transceiving flexibility alongside direct copper drops.

Customizable Fiber Range: SFP slots allow pluggable choice between multimode, single-mode, or long-haul SFPs (such as Hirschmann M-FAST-SFP series) to match exact fiber distance requirements.

Hot-Swappable Backplane Architecture: Plugs directly into active MS20 or MS30 basic switch units, enabling online maintenance, expansion, or transceiver swaps without taking down adjacent modules.

Auto-MDI/MDI-X & Auto-Negotiation: Copper ports automatically adjust speed (10/100 Mbps) and cable pinout, eliminating the need for crossover cables.

Energy-Efficient Operation: Low power draw (≈ 4W to 6W) powered directly via the host switch backplane connector.

Comprehensive Diagnostic LEDs: Front-panel status LEDs provide immediate physical feedback for power, individual port links, speed, and duplex status.

Application Cases

Modular Control Cabinets: Connects two local copper devices (e.g., a PLC and HMI) while providing dual customizable SFP fiber links to create a redundant ring or main uplink back to the core switch.

Factory Automation Sub-Racks: Enables flexible field expansion where local copper drops are needed alongside long-distance optical transceivers.

Pipeline & Utility Monitoring Nodes: Allows field engineers to select specific single-mode or long-haul SFP transceivers for long fiber runs while linking local RTU equipment via copper RJ45.

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS): Provides customizable optical fiber links along highways or rail lines alongside direct copper connections for roadside sensors or IP cameras.

Installation and Maintenance

Installation

ESD Safety Precautions: Put on an anti-static grounding wrist strap before opening packaging or handling the unit.

Backplane Insertion:

Align the guide rails of the MM20-Z6Z6T1T1SAHH with an open slot on the host MS20 or MS30 switch frame.

Push the module in firmly until the backplane connector locks into position.

Mechanical Securing: Hand-tighten top and bottom captive thumbscrews on the front faceplate to lock the module chassis and ensure chassis ground contact.

Cabling Connections:

SFP Slots: Slide approved Fast Ethernet SFP transceivers into slots until latched, then connect fiber patch cables.

Copper Ports: Plug standard shielded Cat5e/Cat6 cables into the RJ45 jacks until the release clip engages.

Maintenance

Hot-Swap Replacement: To replace or swap the module during live operation, disconnect cables/SFPs, loosen captive screws, and pull out the unit. Insert the replacement module without removing main switch power.

Port Dust Caps: Keep protective rubber plugs inserted in unpopulated SFP slots and RJ45 jacks to maintain IP20 compliance and prevent airborne dust accumulation.
