HIRSCHMANN RS20-0800S2T1SDAUHC Industrial Switch
HIRSCHMANN RS20-0800S2T1SDAUHC Industrial Switch
The Hirschmann RS20-0800S2T1SDAUHC is a rugged, highly secure Layer 2 Managed Fast Ethernet switch from the OpenRail family. Designed specifically to excel in challenging automation networks, this unit features a hybrid configuration of 8 ports: 7 standard 10/100BASE-TX RJ45 copper ports and 1 long-range 100BASE-FX Single-Mode SC fiber optic port.
This specific model variant is preloaded with Hirschmann’s robust Classic Software (Layer 2 Standard – L2S) running firmware version 09.0. combined with a wide-range redundant power supply architecture. It offers specialized industrial network redundancy, granular port-level diagnostics, and critical multicast filtering protocols (such as IGMP Snooping) to keep complex PLC and SCADA configurations operating at peak efficiency.

Operating Instructions & Initial Commissioning
1. Din-Rail Installation and Grounding
Mount the switch vertically on a standard 35 mm DIN rail (DIN EN 60715) within an unconditioned control cabinet. Keep at least 10 cm of clear space above and below the housing to facilitate passive convection cooling.
Connect a low-impedance ground conductor (at least 14 AWG / $2.5\text{ mm}^2$) from the grounding terminal screw at the bottom-left of the switch casing directly to the cabinet’s primary ground bar.

2. Physical Power and Signal Hookup
Unscrew the terminals on the pluggable top-mounted terminal block. Wire your primary and secondary DC power supply outputs to the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals marked P1 and P2.
Wire your alarm monitoring loop to the signaling relay contacts. Under healthy operating conditions, the relay is closed. If a tracked event occurs, the circuit breaks.
3. Software Access and IP Setup
Run the Hirschmann HiDiscovery utility on an Ethernet-connected PC.
Click “Rescan” to identify the switch’s physical MAC address.
Set a compatible IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway.
Access the web-based graphical user interface (GUI) by typing the newly configured IP address into a secure HTTPS browser window. Log in using default credentials and establish a strong admin password.
Fault Diagnosis
The RS20 switch uses physical, electrical, and software alerts to flag system issues:
LED Diagnostics Panel
Power LEDs (P1 / P2): Steady green light indicates active, healthy power input ($>9.6\text{ VDC}$). If a redundantly wired system drops one power feed, the inactive LED turns off and a system alarm is generated.
Fault LED (F):
Off: Switch is performing normally.
Red / Solid: A configured alarm condition has triggered (e.g., loss of power redundancy, a monitored port link failure, or internal high-temperature warning).
Standby / RM LED: Solid green indicates the unit is acting as the Ring Manager (RM) for a redundant loop protocol (such as HIP
