Hirschmann RS20-2400T1T1SDAE Industrial Managed Ethernet Switch

Hirschmann RS20-2400T1T1SDAE Industrial Managed Ethernet Switch

The Hirschmann RS20-2400T1T1SDAE (Belden Part Number: 943 434-047) is a highly ruggedized, 24-port Fast Ethernet industrial managed switch designed by Hirschmann (a Belden brand).

Engineered specifically for harsh, demanding industrial environments, this switch provides deterministic data transmission, advanced layer 2 management capabilities, and redundancy mechanisms vital for factory automation, energy utilities, transportation systems, and water treatment facilities

Product Introduction / Overview

The RS20-2400T1T1SDAE is part of Hirschmann’s legacy OpenRail RS20 product group. This series is famous for its compact, DIN-rail mounting profile and hardened fanless chassis design.

This specific 24-port configuration features 24 twisted-pair copper ports (RJ45) that support 10/100 Mbit/s Fast Ethernet connections. Equipped with the Standard Software (SD) package, it supports essential industrial Layer 2 management options, including VLAN tagging, IGMP snooping, Quality of Service (QoS), and rapid redundancy protocols like RSTP and Hirschmann’s proprietary Hyper-Ring topology.

Environmental & Storage Conditions

Environmental Tolerance Conditions

Ambient Operating Temperature: $0^\circ\text{C}$ to $60^\circ\text{C}$ (Standard industrial temperature range; fanless convection cooling).

Relative Humidity: 10% to 95% RH, strictly non-condensing.

Ingress Protection Level: IP20 (Must be protected from continuous water exposure and conductive metallic dust).

Shock & Vibration Resistance:

IEC 60068-2-27 (Shock): 15 g, 11 ms duration.

IEC 60068-2-6 (Vibration): 1 mm amplitude at 2–13.2 Hz; 0.7 g at 13.2–100 Hz.

Storage Conditions

Storage Temperature Range: $-40^\circ\text{C}$ to $70^\circ\text{C}$.

Storage Humidity: 10% to 95% non-condensing.

Anti-Static Safety: Keep the device inside its protective cardboard box and anti-static packaging during transport and long-term storage.

Operating & Installation Instructions

Installation Method

DIN Rail Mounting: Hook the top of the switch’s integrated DIN clip onto the 35 mm rail and press downward until the bottom latch snaps firmly into place.

Safety Grounding: Connect the grounding screw at the bottom-left corner of the front plate directly to local machinery ground using a low-impedance wire.

Power Connection: Strip and insert power wires into the removable terminal block (V1+, V1-, V2+, V2-) to configure redundant DC supplies. Tighten terminal screws to prevent loose connections.

Signal Contact Integration: Wire the fault indicator relay contacts (FAULT) to an external alarm light or PLC digital input to monitor link-down or power failure events.

Operating Instructions

Apply Control Power: Turn on the redundant DC power supplies. The green power indicator LEDs (P1 and P2) on the front panel will illuminate.

Initial Network Connection: Connect a computer to one of the RJ45 ports. By default, the switch attempts to obtain an IP via DHCP. If no DHCP server exists, use the Hirschmann HiDiscovery tool or connect via the front RJ45 V.24 serial port using a terminal emulator to assign a static IP.

Web Interface Access: Open a web browser, enter the switch’s IP address, and log in to the system management portal to configure VLANs, redundancy, and port mirroring.

Fault Diagnosis

FAULT Red LED is Solid Red:

Potential Cause: Loss of power on one of the redundant DC inputs, or a monitored port link has dropped.

Correction: Verify that both V1 and V2 power supplies are operating. Check the web interface diagnostics to identify if a critical port connection has failed.

High Collision Rates or Slow Communication on RJ45 Ports:

Potential Cause: Duplex mismatch between the switch port and the connected end-device (e.g., half-duplex vs. full-duplex).

Correction: Change port settings from “Auto-Negotiation” to matching fixed duplex speeds on both sides (e.g., 100 Mbps Full-Duplex).

Ring Configuration Broken (Redundancy Alarm):

Potential Cause: An active ring connection in the network was disrupted, or the “Ring Manager” configuration was lost.

Correction: Verify cable continuity along all nodes of your industrial ring. Ensure that exactly one switch in the ring is designated as the active Ring Manager (RM).
