Hirschmann RS20-1600S2T1SDAUHC Managed Industrial Switch

The Hirschmann RS20-1600S2T1SDAUHC (Belden Part Number: 943 434-999 custom configuration series) is a highly reliable, 18-port managed Fast Ethernet switch. Part of the proven OpenRail RS20 family, this switch is purpose-built for medium-to-large-scale industrial control systems where long-distance single-mode fiber uplinks are crucial.

Product Introduction / Overview

In sprawling industrial areas—such as marine ports, massive solar farms, or municipal water distribution grids—standard copper Ethernet links fail past the 100-meter mark. The RS20-1600S2T1SDAUHC addresses this physical limit by serving as a highly secure, fiber-enabled network node.

The switch features 16 Fast Ethernet RJ45 copper ports to handle localized connections like PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and HMIs. For the long-haul uplink back to the central control room, it features two Single-Mode SC fiber ports (supporting distances up to 32 km without signal loss). Operating under Hirschmann’s Layer 2 Professional (P) software and certified for ATEX Zone 2 explosive environments, it provides full-featured security, redundancy, and diagnostic capability directly in the field.

Product Features / Core Advantages

Long-Distance Single-Mode Uplinks: The two SC single-mode ports transmit data over distances up to 32 km (19.8 miles), offering superior noise immunity and lightning isolation between plant sections.

Rapid Network Self-Healing: Supports the Media Redundancy Protocol (MRP) and HIPER-Ring topologies, ensuring that if a fiber line is physically damaged, traffic recovery occurs in less than 20 ms.

Hardened Security Features: Integrated Layer 2 Professional software supports IEEE 802.1X network access control, IP/MAC access control lists (ACLs), port security based on MAC addresses, and encrypted configuration access (HTTPS/SSH).

Industrial-Grade Redundancy: Features dual power inputs (AC or DC) and a failure contact relay to alert the SCADA system instantly in the event of an external power drop or a vital link failure.

Installation Method

[DIN Rail Attachment Hook]

[ RS20 ]

|

====|==== <– Push bottom in until metal latch clicks

Mounting: Hang the upper notch of the built-in metal DIN-rail attachment on the back of the housing over the top edge of a standard 35 mm DIN rail (EN 50022).

Locking Down: Push the bottom half of the switch body firmly toward the rail until the bottom spring-loaded metal clip snaps closed over the bottom rail edge.

PE Chassis Grounding: Connect the grounding terminal screw at the bottom front edge of the chassis to your cabinet’s primary functional ground bus to shield the internal network processors from static and power surges.

Operating Instructions

1. Wiring the Interfaces

Copper Ports (Ports 3–16): Use standard Category 5e or better twisted-pair RJ45 cables. Auto-MDI/MDI-X automatically adjusts for patch or crossover cables.

Fiber Optic Ports (Ports 1–2): Pull off the plastic dust caps. Connect single-mode fiber optic patch cords with SC connectors. Ensure the Tx (transmitter) line on the switch connects to the Rx (receiver) line on the remote device.

2. Network Interface Access

Initial Boot: By default, the switch requests an IP address via DHCP or BOOTP. To set a static IP, connect to the RJ45 console port using an RJ11-to-DB9 cable (V.24 interface), or scan the local subnet using the Hirschmann HiDiscovery software utility.

Web Management: Enter the switch’s IP address into a web browser. Log in with the default username admin and default password private (you will be prompted to update this on first login for cybersecurity compliance).
