Shinkawa Electric VM-3D2 Thrust Monitor Module

The Shinkawa Electric VM-3D2 Thrust Monitor Module is a high-precision, continuous machinery protection unit engineered specifically for monitoring axial position and shaft thrust displacement in critical rotating machinery. As a core component of the Shinkawa VM series vibration and condition monitoring system, the VM-3D2 processes signals from non-contact eddy-current proximity probes to prevent destructive rotor-to-stator contacts in high-speed turbines, compressors, and large pumps.

Operating Relative Humidity: 5% to 95% RH (non-condensing)

Vibration Immunity: Conforms to IEC 60068-2-6 standard for cabinet-mounted instrumentation

Shock Resistance: 15g peak acceleration (IEC 60068-2-27)

Protection Class: IP20 (Designed for cabinet rack mounting inside IP54+ enclosures)

Operating Instructions

Pre-Installation: Verify that the VM-3D2 module DIP switches or jumper configurations match the target sensor gap sensitivity and desired measurement range.

Rack Insertion: Turn off rack backplane power. Carefully align module edge connectors with the VM system rack card guides, slide in firmly, and tighten front panel retention thumbscrews.

Probe Gap Setting: Set the physical probe-to-target gap using a digital multimeter on the raw signal output until the voltage corresponds to the electrical zero position.

Alarm Configuration: Adjust Alert (Warning) and Danger (Trip) threshold setpoints based on the machine OEM’s maximum allowable axial displacement limits.

Fault Diagnosis & Troubleshooting

OK LED Extinguished (NOT OK): Indicates a transducer circuit failure. Inspect proximity probe wiring, extension cable connections, or driver/preamplifier power.

ALERT / DANGER LED On unexpectedly: Check probe target position; inspect for axial thrust bearing wear, excessive process surges, or incorrect alarm setpoint settings.

Signal Drift / Reading Instability: Inspect cable shielding to ensure it is grounded at the rack earthing point only; check for strong magnetic fields or ungrounded machine shafts.

Front Panel Buffer Output Inactive: Check buffer output jack pins for short circuits or contamination.
