VIBRO-METER

VIBRO-METER IOC4G2 I/O interface card

Product Overview: Meggitt Vibro-Meter IOC4G2

The Vibro-Meter IOC4G2 is an Input/Output (I/O) rear card engineered specifically to pair with the MPC4G2 machinery protection card within the VM600 / VM600Mk2 series machinery protection system (MPS). Mounted in the back of a 19-inch VM600 rack (ABE04x / ABE056), the IOC4G2 acts as the physical interface between field measurement chains and the processing electronics.

Environmental Tolerance Conditions

Built for heavy industrial environments, the IOC4G2 maintains strict electrical and atmospheric protection standards:

Operating Temperature: $-25^\circ\text{C}$ to $+65^\circ\text{C}$ ($-13^\circ\text{F}$ to $+149^\circ\text{F}$)

Storage Temperature: $-40^\circ\text{C}$ to $+85^\circ\text{C}$ ($-40^\circ\text{F}$ to $+185^\circ\text{F}$)

Relative Humidity: $5\%$ to $95\%$ non-condensing

EMI/EMC Compliance: Meets EN 61000-6-2 (Industrial Immunity) and EN 61000-6-4 (Emissions)

Overvoltage Protection: Tested according to IEC 60255-5 electrical insulation/surge standards

Operating Instructions

1.Rear Rack Insertion:Align module in the rear rack slot opposite the MPC4G2.

Ensure the VM600 rack power supply is properly configured or isolated if hot-swapping is restricted by plant safety procedures. Align the IOC4G2 with the guide rails in the rear section of the rack directly behind the corresponding MPC4G2 card slot. Insert firmly until the multi-pin connector seats into the backplane.

2.Field Wiring Terminal Connection:Connect field transducers and external instrumentation。

Connect signal, common, and shield cables from proximity probes (IQS series), accelerometers, or velocity sensors into the designated screw terminal blocks. Connect output wires for 4–20 mA loops and relay contacts to the DCS/PLC terminal strips.

3.Shielding & Grounding Setup:Ground shield connection configuration。

Verify that cable shields are grounded at the IOC4G2 terminal shield points according to plant grounding guidelines to ensure full EMI protection and avoid earth loops.

4.System Software Mapping:Configure signal levels via VibroSight。

Power on the rack. Use VibroSight software to assign input sensitivity, voltage ranges, current loop zero/scale, and relay activation logic mapped through the front MPC4G2 card.

Fault Diagnosis

The IOC4G2 works passively and actively with the MPC4G2 to report field loop and card-level issues:

Fault Symptom Probable Cause Corrective Action
Channel “OK” Line Open / Fault Sensor cable open/short circuit, incorrect gap voltage on proximity probe, or damaged sensor supply. Measure DC gap voltage across input terminals. Check field cabling continuity and sensor power supply voltage.
No 4–20 mA Output Open current loop, improper jumper configuration, or output DAC channel failure. Verify external loop load resistance ($\le 500\,\Omega$). Check software configuration in VibroSight for proper output assignment.
Spurious Alarms / Noise Broken cable shielding, missing ground connection, or strong local EMI. Inspect shield termination on the terminal strip. Ensure signal cables are separated from high-voltage power lines.
Backplane Communication Error Improper seating of the card, bent rear connector pins, or backplane fault. Power off slot, remove IOC4G2 card, inspect rear multi-pin connector for bent pins, and re-seat properly.

Related Models of the Same Series

The IOC4G2 belongs to the broader Meggitt Vibro-Meter VM600 machinery protection hardware family:

MPC4G2 / MPC4 / MPC4Mk2: Front-mounted machinery protection processing cards.

IOC4T: Legacy rear Input/Output card pair for MPC4 cards.

IOC4Mk2: Second-generation rear Input/Output card for VM600Mk2 series.

IOC16T / XIO16T: High-density 16-channel rear input/output cards for condition monitoring.

IOC8T: 8-channel temperature and process monitoring I/O card (pairs with AMC8).

RLC16 / IRC4: External relay expansion cards connected via the VM600 open-collector bus.

Storage Conditions

Proper storage practices ensure component reliability prior to field deployment:

Packaging: Keepsealed inside static-shielding (ESD) packaging with moisture absorber desiccant bags.

Storage Temperature: $-40^\circ\text{C}$ to $+85^\circ\text{C}$ ($-40^\circ\text{F}$ to $+185^\circ\text{F}$).

Relative Humidity: Less than $95\%$ non-condensing.

Environment: Indoor cleanroom or climate-controlled warehouse free from corrosive chemical vapors, airborne dust, and high vibration exposure.
