The Hirschmann MAR1040 (part of the MACH1040 series) is a high-density, 19-inch rack-mount Managed Full Gigabit Industrial Ethernet Switch engineered for mission-critical industrial applications. Featuring a rugged metal housing and a fanless passive cooling design, the MAR1040 provides up to 16 Gigabit Combo ports (10/100/1000Base-TX RJ45 copper or 100/1000Base-FX SFP optical fiber slots).

Installation Method

Note: Installation should only be performed by qualified personnel using static safety precautions (ESD protection).

Cabinet Mounting: Install the switch horizontally inside a standard 19-inch control cabinet using 4 mounting screws attached through the integrated front brackets.

Clearance Spacing: Ensure a minimum of 10 cm (3.94 inches) clearance in front of and behind the ventilation grilles for convection cooling.

Grounding: Connect a protective earth wire (min. 1.0 $\text{mm}^2$ / AWG16) to the grounding screw located on the back panel before connecting power cables.

Power Wiring: Insert high-voltage or low-voltage power leads into the 3-pin or 2-pin removable plug-in terminal block and tighten terminal screws firmly.

Transceiver Installation: Slide optional Fast/Gigabit SFP transceivers into the lower combo slots until they latch.

Operating Instructions

Power-On Self-Test: Upon energizing the terminal block, check the Device Status LEDs:

P1 / P2 (Power LEDs): Solid green indicates active supply voltage on input feeds.

Fault LED (Signal Contact): Off indicates normal operation; Red indicates a system alarm or link loss trigger.

Port Link Verification: Plug RJ45 copper or fiber SFP patch cords into the active combo ports. Check port LEDs:

Link Status LED: Solid green indicates a valid physical link; blinking green indicates live packet transmission.

Initial Configuration:

IP Assignment: Connect to the network management port and use HiDiscovery or Industrial HiVision to discover the switch and assign an IP address.
