Control product – Soft starter

PST/PSTB (Intelligent Type)

ABB offers four types of soft starters to meet various application requirements, with motor currents ranging from 3A to 1810A. The product range includes the intelligent PST(B) series and the user-friendly PSE series

Column, universal PSS series and compact PSR series.

Meet the following standards:

GB14048.6-2008.

IEC60947-1

EN60947-1

IEC60947-4-2

EN60947-4-2

UL508

CSA C22.2 No.14

LR Test specification No.1

For the protection of electrical equipment with semiconductor components in soft starters, the provisions of GB14048.6-2008 are as follows:

8.2.5 Coordination and cooperation with short-circuit protection devices

8.2.5.1 Performance under Short-circuit conditions

Two types of combinations are allowed:

Type 1 Coordination and cooperation: It is required that under short-circuit conditions, the electrical appliance should not cause harm to people or the equipment it is installed on. Before repair and replacement of parts, it is not allowed to continue to be used.

Type 2 (Type 2) Coordination and Cooperation: It is required that under short-circuit conditions, the electrical appliance should not cause harm to people or the equipment it is installed on, and can continue to be used.

Based on the protection characteristics and action times of different coordinated protection devices, the following protection can be achieved: – By using MCCB (i.e., molded case switch), type 1 coordinated protection can be realized. By adopting semiconductor protection fuses (i.e., fast fuses), type 2 coordinated protection can be achieved.

ABB recommends using Type 2 coordinated protection (i.e., semiconductor protection fuse) for the coordinated protection scheme of soft starters.

Soft starter

When the first electric motor appeared, engineers were constantly looking for a way to avoid it

Electrical and mechanical problems that occur during the starting of an electric motor. Since the early 1980s

ABB has been manufacturing soft starters all along and has valuable experience. Nowadays, these scriptures

The experience is also integrated into the design of the product series. The newly launched PST series is ABB’s product

A major advancement in soft start technology. It has applied the intelligence in modern power electronics

With circuits and software, the soft starters developed by ABB can make excellent use of electronic components

The device is used to control the current and voltage when the motor starts and stops, and several have also been added

This kind of design feature.

Solutions to mechanical and electrical problems

The AC motor – known as the “industrial packhorse”, is used to drive fans and crush

Machines, mixers, water pumps, conveyor belts and other equipment. In production plants all over the world,

It often triggers unnecessary torque and current peaks, while causing losses in multiple aspects

Bad, including:

Electrical problem

The sudden changes in voltage and current generated during direct starting or star-delta starting bring about a large

Electrical issues with quantity. These mutation phenomena may cause the local power grid to overload and generate

Unacceptable voltage fluctuations that affect other devices connected to the power grid

Mechanical problems

The entire transmission chain (from the motor to the driven equipment) will be subjected to intense stress.

It causes a large amount of maintenance work and even parking accidents.

Operational issues

Such as the pressure in the pipeline, damaging the products on the conveyor belt, and causing people to ride up and down

The discomfort of the machine.

Water hammer effect and pipeline pressure fluctuation issues

Water hammer effect and pipeline pressure fluctuation problems often occur during the process of starting and stopping water pumps

It occurred during the process.

Behind every technical issue and malfunction, attention should be paid to the economic consequences caused by maintenance and production halts

Compensate for the losses.

A simple way to solve these problems is to install ABB’s PST(B) soft starter. Got it

ABB soft starters can smoothly start and stop motors to the greatest extent

Reduce mechanical and electrical shocks.

The PST(B) series is a microprocessor-based soft starter. This design applies the latest technology

Provide soft start and soft stop functions for the motor. The PST(B) soft starter is standard equipped with multiple precursors

Advanced motor protection function; The four-button keyboard and logically structured menu make it safe

Installation, debugging and operation all become simple. There are still 14 languages to choose from.

PST bypass dedicated terminal block

PST soft starters can use or do not use bypass contactors for large specifications

PSTB370… The PSTB1050 soft starter is equipped with a bypass contactor inside.

In conventional starting applications (such as pumps, compressors, hydraulic lifts, handrails, etc.

Ladders, short-distance conveyor belts and bow thrusters, etc., can be adjusted according to the rated power of the motor

Choose the PST soft starter based on the rate.

For applications requiring heavy-load starting (such as fans, centrifuges, crushers, mixers, agitators)

For mixers and long-distance conveyor belts, ABB recommends that you choose a power larger than the rated power of the motor

A soft starter of one specification.
