AEROTECH Ndrive MP Hardware Manual
Chapter 1: Introduction
Aerotech’s Ndrive MP (Ultra-Compact “Micro” PWM)network digital driveis ahighperformanceamplifier.
Thedriveprovides deterministic behavior, auto-identification, and easy software setup. The Ndrive MP’s
high performancedoubleprecisionfloating point DSP controls thedigital PID andcurrent loops. All system
configuration is done using software-settable parameters, including control loop gains and system safety
functions.
TheNdriveMP is offeredwithanoptional encoderinterpolationfeature(-MXU), anauxiliary squarewave
encoderinput for dual loopcontrol, dedicated analog anddigital I/O (expandable with the-IO option), and
separate powerconnections formotorandcontrol supply voltages
Power Dissipation

Ndrive MP
Thefirst figure below shows theamplifierpowerdissipation undercontinuous powersupply andoutput
current conditions. The values onthegraphrepresent thepeak current that theamplifierwouldprovideduring
operation. Whenthebus voltageandoutput current areknown, theamplifierpowerdissipationis foundusing
this graph. Thesecondfigureshows themaximum recommendedambient temperatureas afunctionof
amplifier power dissipation. Use this graph along with thepowerdissipation obtained from thefirst graph to
determine themaximum ambient temperature. If theresult is lowerthantheknownoperatingambient
temperature, additional measures are required to cool the NdriveMP. Mountingit toalargemetal platefor
extra heat-sinking and providing additional fan flow are suggested
